Mark Hamilton began playing soccer as a youth with the Shelby Utica Soccer Association (S.U.S.A). During his youth playing career Mark played with some of Metro Detroit's top club soccer teams, winning numerous State and Regional Championships.
Mark attended Macomb College where he earned All-State and All-Region honors. His freshman year Macomb went to the National Championships and finished 8th in the country. Hamilton also attended Oakland University, one of the Midwest's most successful soccer programs, where he served as a captain and earned All-State and All-Region honors and was selected to play in the prestigious NSCAA Senior Bowl. Mark still holds numerous Oakland University school records. In 1979 he was selected to tryout for a position on the USA Olympic team.
Mark was the first American to play Scottish Junior Professional soccer where he played for Largs Thistle FC. He had professional trails with several Scottish First Division professional teams before returning to the U.S.A. to continue his dream of playing professional soccer. Mark had unsuccessful trails with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers and the Miami Toros and returned to Detroit where he spent time with the Detroit Express of the A.S.L.
Soon after Mark retired from playing competitive soccer he began a career in coaching. He started his coaching career at the high school level where he coached several metropolitan Detroit high school teams. He has since coached at the collegiate level with Macomb College, University of Detroit Mercy and Oakland University among others. Mark has also coached at the professional level with the Detroit Wheels and the Detroit Dynamite.
Mark was the first Director of Coaching for the Rochester Soccer Club serving in that capacity for 15 years. He has been involved with the MSYSA Olympic Development Program and served as the Director of the boys and girls goalkeeper programs. Mark has also served as the MSYSA State Goalkeeper Coach. Coach Hamilton as been a MSYSA coaches education staff coach and MSYSA District Developmental Coach. Mark holds a USSF B license, USYSA National Youth license and a NSCAA Goalkeeper Institute license. Mark is the founder and owner of the Michigan Goalkeeper Academy. The Michigan Goalkeeper Academy is celebration over 25 years of goalkeeper training excellence.
